Danner rotunda
- at he the central core of the pinothek der Moderne is the Danner Rotunde, It holds over 100 works from some of the worlds most influential contemporary jewellers. The selection was curated by Otto Kunzli in 2014 and is made up of works on loan from the Danner foundation. I cant really explain in word how fantastic this exhibition is but like the curve gallery in London the rotunda experience feels like one of discovery the space is dimly lit with strip lighting low on the walls with individually lit central curved floor cabinets and long rectangle wall cabinets. Displayed are works in all materials shapes and sizes and works are grouped as if in conversation with each others my favorites which were one of Lucy Sarnels Love power, a zinc component necklace on yellow cord with Fabrizo Tridenties bright Yellow Italian Ring.I especially enjoyed a piece called holy pendants by Mikiko Minewaki a large necklace depicting oversize pave pendants and chain it was crafted completely with white paper and filled and entire wall cabinet. another favourite was Bernard Shobingers bottle neck Chain.
The rotunda is a real credit to the museum and speaks volumes to the respect afforded to contemporary jewllery by the German public and institutions
